About Chelsey

Photo by Carrie Smith of Sealed with a Kiss Photography

I got my start in photography in high school, when I took a black and white film class and I fell in love!

If I had to choose one food to eat forever, it would be tacos.

If I’m not photographing a wedding, you’ll find me at a rodeo. I barrel race competitively with my horse, Thelma!

I'm a Florida native, but I dream of moving to Texas one day!

The Office never gets old. #bearsbeetsbattlestargalactica

I'm that kind of dog mom. #hootiepants

Before I became a photographer, I sold t-shirts and CD's for punk rock bands, worked at a grocery store, waited tables at the Hard Rock Cafe and cleaned stalls at a horse farm. I also work part time as an ER nurse!

I splurge on candles (No. 13 Bob's Flower Shoppe is my favorite)

My Why

Twelve years ago, I stumbled upon dozens of boxes of photographs, hidden away for a lifetime in my abuela’s house. They were overflowing with photographs of days past; photographs of her as a teenager in Cuba, the day my grandparents got married, the day my dad was born, his childhood, and many of my own childhood memories that I had only ever heard stories about. They were photos of everyday life, preserved in perfect, individual prints. Real, tangible things that I could hold in my hand. Finding those pictures really changed my perspective about what it is I really do. This change in thinking evolved my photographic style into what it is today. Both my abuela and my dad have passed, but I still have and cherish those photographs more than I ever could have imagined.

My intention every single time I pick up my camera is not only to take beautiful photographs, but to leave you feeling exactly the way you did in that moment that I captured. I want whoever looks at your photos to feel like they were right there with you. I want the emotion to jump right out of that image.

When it comes to photography, I consider what I do to be magic. There’s something to be said about having the ability to preserve a moment for somebody forever. It really is magical. I love observing how people interact with each other. And weddings are truly my favorite thing to document. Everyone you love in the same place celebrating your commitment to one another. I love documenting stolen glances and hidden tears and belly laughs and subtle smiles and uninhibited emotion. I love capturing that look he gives you when you aren’t paying attention. I love seeing that moment when you're walking down the aisle and you sneak a quick peek at your dad. I live for those moments. The ones that you’ll pull out of a box someday (because pictures are meant to be printed) and you’ll feel exactly the way you did in that moment.

I still print my photos. I get stacks of 4x6 prints and little photo books from those iPhone apps and magnets for my fridge. I love seeing all my memories hanging on the walls and set out in frames, surrounding me with all the good feelings that I remember when I look at them. I want the same thing for each and every one of my clients and couples that I have the honor of photographing.
