I’m so excited you’ve chosen to book a Blackout Session with me!
It’s not every day that we get professional photographs taken of our horses! As your photographer, I’m here to make this process as fun and as stress-free as possible. I’ve compiled a list of tips & tricks as well as some frequently asked questions to try and help you prepare as much as possible for your blackout session! All I want you to worry about during your session is getting the best possible photos of your horse and let me take care of the rest!
Some Tips on Preparing for Your Blackout Session
Groom your horse.
It seems simple, but spend some extra time cleaning all that dirt, brushing away all the loose hairs, getting all the knots out of his mane and polishing those hooves. Little details like this make the biggest difference in your photos AND they save on editing time, which means you get your gallery back sooner! Pro tip: If you plan to bathe your horse, be sure to allow enough time for him to dry! Many clients opt to bathe their horses the night before their session.
Feed & lunge your horse.
Get all the jitters out before we start your session by making sure your horses stomach is full and lunging him for a few minutes if he’s feeling frisky. Just be sure not to lunge them to the point that they are sweating and foamy!
Clean your tack.
A nice, clean leather halter always photographs beautifully for blackout sessions. If you don’t have a leather halter, find the cleanest, least bulky halter possible or better yet, clean your favorite headstall and use that!
Bring treats.
If you know there is a certain treat that your horse just goes crazy over, be sure and bring them! Myself and my assistant do our best to keep ears perked up during your session, but having a few of your horses favorite things definitely helps!
